Record number of Olive Ridley turtles arrive to nest in Odisha

The River of Rushikulya in Odisha’s Ganjam district has shown into a spectacular nesting ground for the endangered Olive Ridley turtles.

According to the official data, over 637,000 laid eggs during the mass nesting period from February 223 to March 2, 2023; in 2022, the number was 550,000.

It is the one major sea life’s arrival on land this year; people in Odisha visited the site to see this view, and all social media posted many videos and pics of these turtles.

Beach staff has done patrolling and fencing for protection of the beach. According to the local authority, the Forest Department, Marine Police, and Coast Guard continuously protect the area.
